What is Assisted Hatching?

Assisted hatching is a scientific technique that can improve embryo implantation into the woman’s uterine lining, by creating an opening through which the embryo can hatch out.

Embryo hatching improves the chances of implantation of embryos in the uterus. Assisted Hatching is done while the embryos are in the laboratory. Before being implanted back to the uterus, a small hole is made in the external layer of the embryo, using specialized laser equipment.

Laser-Assisted hatching can be performed in:

Laser-Assisted Hatching is implemented and found to be useful in the following cases:

  • Women over the age of 37 years
  • Patients with elevated follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) on 3 day
  • Patients with previously failed IVF / ICSI cycles
  • Poor quality or slow-developing embryos
  • Embryos exhibiting excessive fragmentation
  • Women who froze her embryo
  • Patients who are suffering from severe endometriosis
  • Infertility due to unknown reasons
Assisted Hatching Treatment

The assisted hatching treatment is performed when the embryo has an average of 6 to 8 cells on the 3 rd day of development. The following sequence of steps is carried out in a sterile environment:

  • A holding pipette is used to stabilize the embryo.
  • A small breach in the zona pellucida is deliberately created either by chemical or with the help of laser.
  • The embryos are transferred into the woman’s uterus or womb.
